Temples in Jodhpur

Adhar Shila Ramdeo The most amazing of all Baba Ramdeo temples in Rajasthan is the Adhar Shila Ramdeo in Jodhpur. Located on the way from Nagori Gate to Jalori Gate, on a steep rocky hill, this temple is an expression of trust and devotion.

Achal Nath Shivalaya was constructed by Nanak Devi, queen of Rao Ganga and was completed on 21st May 1531. A large water reservoir called Bawari was made near the Shivlinga known as Ganga Bawari. Many items inside the temple are made of carved Chhitar stone.

Asik Bihari Temple Niniji Temple Located off the Udai Mandir road, Rasik Bihari temple is a spectacular building. The Sabha Mandaps or meeting halls are built with red sandstone pillars and the Garbh Grihai is surrounded by a gallery (Parikrama), made of white stone. The meeting hall is devoted to Rasik Bihari, Lord Krishna and Goddess Radha and has statues of Lord Vishnu, Garuda and Hanumanji which reside on both sides of its doors. On one part of the main door Adi Vinayak Ganeshji can be seen. The temple is currently managed by the Archaeological Survey of India.

Badli Behron Located at Badli village, 13 km from Jodhpur, Badli Behron temple is at least 700 years old. Built by Sihaji, who brought Rathores from Kannauj to Marwar, this temple is situated under a big tree and is quite picturesque.

Ganesh Temple Very little (accurate) information can be found on this temple. Please write to us if you have any, so we can share the information with other travellers.

Ghanshyam Ji Temple In Juni Mandi, the Ghanshyam Ji temple, is made of red sandstone with large domes. A foundation stone in the temple dates the building to have been constructed in 1718. Nowadays this temple is used for Pagdi and Uthala after somebody's death.

Kharanana Devi Temple is mentioned in the 33rd chapter of Shrimal Mahatmaya in Skand Purana but little information other than this can be found. Please write to us if you have any, so we can share the information with other travellers.

Kunj Bihari Temple seems to be a replica of Ghan Shyamji temple. The top of the temple and its entrance are examples of architectural excellence. At the entrance is a statue of Meera and facing it is Lord Krishna in the Garbh Griha (Central hall). On the right of Meera's statue is the saint Namdeo and on left is Hanuman's statue.

Mahamandir Temple 9km from Jodphur was built in 1812 A.D. and is a noteworthy temple with 84 carved pillars.

Mandal Nath Again little information can be found on this temple. Please write to us if you have any, so we can share the information with other travellers.

Raj Ranchhodji Temple was built by Queen Jadechi Rajkanwar after the death of her husband King Jaswant Singh. A major part of this temple is made of red sandstone, carved with beautiful filigree work. The heart of the temple houses the statue of Ranchhodji made of black marble and the main door to the temple has stained glass windows.

Rameshwar Mahadev located near Surajkund outside Chandpole is considered to be a Siddh peeth. It is said that the Shivling here is Jyotirmay Ling, which was brought and established here by a saint in 1250. Other than this no information can be found. Please write to us if you have any, so we can share the information with other travellers.

Shanishchar Ji ka Than On the road from Jalori Gate to Siwanchi Gate, before Umaid Hospital is the famous Shanishchar Ji Temple which attracts thousands of people who come to worship here on Saturdays. To avoid the anger of Shanishchar, son of Surya, people offer oil, sweet, money and light an oil lamp.

Siddhnath Shiv Temple is located between Takhat Sagar hills on Chopasani Road. To get to the temple one has to climb some stairs cut into the rocks. A handicapped saint named Gaurishanker, known as Nepali Baba who only had four fingers on each hand and foot built the temple by cutting the surrounding stone.

Udai Mandir is a great building from architectural point of view. The upper part of the gate is made of carved sandstone. The main temple which stands on a huge platform is supported by 102 pillars. The interiors are full of beautiful wall paintings and pictures of Nath yogis made with gold. The upper portion of the Garbh Griha is covered with cloth and has a railing of sandalwood which is finely carved. The grand door of the main temple is made of carved sandal wood.

Palatial mansions like the Moti Mahal, Sheesh Mahal, Maan Vilas, Daulat Khana, Sileh Khana, Sukh Mahal and Phool Mahal are located all over the Mehrangarh premises. These palaces are interspersed with massive hallways, pillared rooms, shrines and ornamental courtyards. Holi is the most popular of the seasonal festivals and normally falls in the month of March. This festival is held over two days; on the first day, at night 'Holika', the witch is burnt in a big bonfire signifying the end of winter and beginning of new year. On the second day people splash colours or coloured powder on their friends and relatives.
